New Treatment Combination May Improve Quality of Life in Advanced Colorectal Cancer

For patients with advanced colorectal cancer, treatment options become limited once standard chemotherapy stops working. A new study tested a combination of two medicines, sotorasib and panitumumab, in patients whose tumors carry a change called KRAS G12C mutation.

The trial compared this combination to standard medicines (trifluridine-tipiracil or regorafenib). Earlier results showed that sotorasib plus panitumumab helped patients live longer without their cancer getting worse. This new analysis focused on how patients felt during treatment.

Patients answered questions about fatigue, pain, physical function, and overall quality of life. After nine weeks, those taking sotorasib and panitumumab reported less pain and less fatigue compared to standard treatment. They also showed better physical function and a higher sense of overall well-being.

These results suggest that the new combination not only controls cancer better but also helps patients maintain a better quality of life. This is especially important for people with advanced cancer, where feeling stronger and having less pain can make a big difference in daily living.

For patients with KRAS G12C-mutated colorectal cancer, this treatment may soon become a valuable option. Anyone interested in whether this therapy is right for them should speak with their oncologist and ask about testing for the KRAS mutation.
