IN SHORT

At the first visit the doctor hears your story, examines your belly and reads your reports. Most people leave with a clear plan for the next step.
Bring every old report, scan, scan CD, discharge summary and your current medicines. Old reports often save you from repeating tests you have already done.
The OPD consultation fee at Gota is Rs 1,500. Tests, if needed, are paid separately where they are done. Call +91 63555 64601 to book a time.

How do you book the first visit?

Call the clinic on +91 63555 64601 to book a time. You can also send a message on WhatsApp. The clinic will give you a time at the Gota OPD and tell you how to reach it.

When you call, say in one line what the main problem is, for example “pain in the upper belly for two months” or “gallstones seen on ultrasound”. This helps the clinic tell you which reports to bring.

What should you bring?

Bring everything you have, even if it looks old or not related. A report from two years ago can show whether something has changed. Use this checklist:

  1. All blood test reports, including liver tests and sugar
  2. Ultrasound, CT, MRI or X-ray reports, and the CD or film if you have it
  3. Endoscopy, colonoscopy and biopsy reports
  4. Discharge summaries from any hospital stay
  5. A list of every medicine you take, or the strips themselves
  6. A short note of your main symptoms and since when

Bring a family member if you can. Two people remember more of what is said, and many decisions are made together as a family.

What happens in the consultation room?

The first visit follows the same steps for most patients:

  1. Your story. The doctor asks what the problem is, when it started, what makes it better or worse, and what treatment you have already had.
  2. Examination. You lie down and the doctor gently feels your belly. This often tells more than a scan.
  3. Reading your reports. Every report and scan you bring is looked at, and the doctor explains what it means in plain words.
  4. The likely cause. You are told what is most likely going on, and what else needs to be ruled out.
  5. The plan. Medicines, diet advice, a test, or, if needed, a discussion about surgery. You can ask questions at every step.

What does the first visit cost?

The OPD consultation fee at the Gota clinic is Rs 1,500. Tests, scans and endoscopy, when advised, are paid for separately where they are done.

Will you need tests?

Not always. Many problems, such as simple acidity or constipation, can be treated from your story and examination alone. Tests are advised when they will change the treatment.

If you have had a test recently, it is usually not repeated. If a new test is needed, the doctor tells you why, where it can be done, and whether you need to come fasting. Common tests are blood tests, an ultrasound of the belly, a CT scan, or an endoscopy.

What if you need surgery?

Most people do not need an operation. If surgery is the right treatment, it is explained at the visit: why it is needed, what the operation involves, how long you stay in hospital, and when you can go back to work. Operations are done at Apollo Hospital, Bhat, Gandhinagar.

You do not have to decide on the same day. Take the time to talk it over at home. You are welcome to take a second opinion, and to come back with your questions.

When to go to hospital instead of the OPD

The OPD is for problems that can wait a day or two. Go to an emergency department straight away if you have:

  • Vomiting blood, or black, tar-like stools
  • Severe belly pain with a hard or swollen belly
  • Vomiting with no gas or stool passing
  • Yellow eyes with high fever and shivering

After the first visit

You leave with a written prescription and plan. If tests are done, you come back with the results, and the plan is adjusted. For long-term problems, the doctor tells you when to come for a check-up. You can call the clinic between visits if your symptoms change.

Frequently asked questions

What is the consultation fee at the Gota OPD?

The OPD consultation fee is Rs 1,500. Any test that is advised is paid for separately, at the lab or hospital where it is done.

Do I need to be empty stomach for the first visit?

Not for the consultation itself. If you think a blood test or ultrasound may be done the same day, call the clinic first and ask whether you should come fasting.

Can a family member come instead of the patient?

A family member can come with the reports to discuss them. For a full opinion the patient should be seen and examined, so bring the patient whenever possible.

Can I come for a second opinion?

Yes, second opinions are welcome. Bring every report, scan CD and discharge summary you have, and the plan you have been given.

Will I have an endoscopy at the first visit?

No. If an endoscopy or colonoscopy is needed, it is booked separately and done by an endoscopy specialist. Dr Shah then reviews the findings with you.
