A recent study shows that a small blood test might help predict how well cancer patients will do. This test looks for tumor DNA in the blood. It’s called ctDNA. When there’s more of it, cancer might be more aggressive.

Researchers studied over 600 cancer patients. People with more ctDNA in their blood had a higher risk of their cancer growing or dying sooner. People with little or no ctDNA lived longer. This test can be done before treatment starts.

The technique used is affordable and uses very little blood. It’s called ultra-low-pass whole-genome sequencing. It helps doctors know how much tumor DNA is in the blood and what might happen next.

This test is not used everywhere yet. But it could help doctors decide how to treat cancer earlier and better. It might make cancer care more personal and more accurate—without needing surgery or scans.
