Gallbladder cancer is a rare but serious disease. Doctors know that gallstones can increase the risk, but other everyday factors may also play a role. A recent study looked at over 200 research papers to find out more.

The study found that being overweight or obese raises the risk. If a person gains weight, especially around the waist, their risk increases. Bigger waist size and a higher body mass index (BMI) were both linked to more cases of gallbladder cancer.

Pregnancy history may also matter. Women who had many children had a higher risk. Infections of the bile ducts, which carry digestive fluids, were another risk factor.

On the other hand, education seemed to protect against gallbladder cancer. People with higher education levels were less likely to develop the disease. This may be because education is linked to healthier lifestyles and better access to healthcare.

Doctors say these results show that maintaining a healthy weight and staying active can lower cancer risk. Knowing your family and health history is important. If you have had bile duct infections or other issues, talk to your doctor.

More research is needed, but small changes in lifestyle can make a big difference.
