A big study found that people with prediabetes have a higher chance of getting colorectal cancer. The study looked at results from over 850,000 people. It showed that having prediabetes raised the risk of this cancer by 16%.

Prediabetes means your blood sugar is higher than normal but not high enough to be called diabetes. Most people don’t know they have it because it doesn’t usually cause symptoms. But this study says even mild blood sugar problems can affect your health in serious ways.

People who had prediabetes for more than 5 years were more likely to get cancer. Age didn’t make a big difference, so younger people with prediabetes should also be careful.

You can lower your risk. A healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight loss can bring your blood sugar down. This helps protect you from diabetes and cancer.

Doctors may now consider earlier screening for colon cancer in people with prediabetes, especially if other risk factors are present.
