Liver is the largest organ inside your body. It helps your body digest food, store energy, and remove poisons.
As per the fatty liver doctor, Fatty liver disease is a condition in which fat builds up in your liver. There are two main types of as per fatty liver doctor:
  •  Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)
  •  Alcoholic fatty liver disease, also called alcoholic steatohepatitis

If fatty liver progresses to NASH, the following symptoms may develop:

  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Moderate to severe abdominal pain
  • Yellowing of eyes and skin

There are several factors that may cause or contribute to developing fatty liver:

Obesity
Involves low-grade inflammation that may promote liver fat storage. It’s estimated that 30–90% of obese adults have NAFLD, and it’s increasing in children due to the childhood obesity epidemic

Excess belly fat
Normal-weight people may develop fatty liver if they are “viscerally obese,” meaning they carry too much fat around the waist

Insulin resistance
Insulin resistance and high insulin levels have been shown to increase liver fat storage in people with type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome

High intake of refined carbs
Frequent intake of refined carbs promotes liver fat storage, especially when high amounts are consumed by overweight or insulin-resistant individuals

Sugary beverage consumption
Sugar-sweetened beverages like soda and energy drinks are high in fructose, which has been shown to drive liver fat accumulation in children and adults

  • There are no medications approved for NAFLD, though some are in clinical trials Usually the first line of treatment is to lose weight . It helps reduce fat, inflammation, and scarring in your liver. Losing just 3% to 5% of your body weight can cut down on how much fat is in your liver.

    • Folic acid, Vitamin E – have small role to play in fatty liver treatment
    • See a fatty liver doctor regularly
    • Talk to your fatty liver doctor about ways to improve your liver health
    • Lose weight, if you are overweight or obese
    • Lower your cholesterol and triglycerides
    • Control your diabetes
    • Avoid alcohol
