Comparative effectiveness, safety, and cost of laparoscopic versus robotic minimally invasive cholecystectomy a systematic review and meta-analysis.DOI 10.1007s11701-025-02863-8

Gallbladder removal is a common surgery, mostly done using a small-camera method called laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). In recent years, robotic surgery (RC) has become more popular, offering doctors better control and visibility during the procedure. But is it better for patients?

This large study looked at over 400,000 people worldwide who had their gallbladders removed. It compared LC and RC to find out which method was safer, faster, and more cost-effective.

Here’s what they found:

⦿ Laparoscopic surgery is still the most common and trusted method.

⦿ Robotic surgery took longer in Western hospitals but was sometimes faster in Asian centers.

⦿ RC had fewer serious complications and less need to switch to open surgery during the procedure.
