Chemotherapy can damage the liver while fighting cancer. This can lead to fatigue, stomach pain, and other issues. New research shows that natural substances from plants may help protect the liver during treatment.

Scientists studied 61 animal research papers. They found that plant extracts helped lower liver damage caused by chemotherapy drugs like cisplatin and doxorubicin. The natural compounds reduced liver enzymes linked to damage, improved liver cells under a microscope, and increased antioxidants. Antioxidants protect cells from damage.

Plants also helped reduce swelling in the liver. When the liver is healthier, it can work better and cause fewer side effects during cancer treatment.

This is good news, but these plant-based treatments are not yet approved for patients. More research is needed to make sure they are safe and effective for humans. Patients should not try these remedies without talking to their doctor.

This research gives hope that, in the future, natural products could help support the liver during chemotherapy, making treatment easier on the body.
