Air pollution, especially fine particles called PM₂.₅, is harmful to our health. A study reviewed several reports to see how air pollution impacts digestive diseases. It found that exposure to air pollution may worsen liver health and increase the risk of chronic liver diseases, liver cancer, and colorectal cancer.

The study reviewed nine analyses with over 40 studies. It showed that PM₂.₅ does not seem to increase the risk of esophagus, stomach, or pancreatic cancer. But, there is enough evidence to say that liver diseases are significantly affected by air pollution.

Keeping our air clean can help reduce these risks. People with existing liver issues should be extra cautious about air pollution exposure.
