Microplastics are tiny pieces of plastic that are everywhere—in the air, water, and food. Scientists reviewed studies to see how they impact our health. They focused on three areas: digestion, breathing, and reproduction.

The results showed that microplastics may harm sperm quality and affect hormones needed for reproduction. They can also damage the gut, causing inflammation and other problems. For the lungs, breathing in microplastics may lead to inflammation and long-term damage.

The study found that microplastics are “suspected” to harm these areas of health. More research is needed, especially to understand their impact during pregnancy. To stay safer, try to avoid single-use plastics and choose reusable options when possible.
