What are the tests for diagnosing colon cancer ?
Colonoscopy is a test by which a thin tube is inserted through anus to examine the large intestine. A biopsy from the diseased area is taken to confirm the diagnosis.

The tumour does not produce any symptom in early stages. When it starts to grow, the symptoms will appear such as pain, altered bowel habits, weight loss & blood in stool.

What is staging of colon cancer?
Staging is a process by which the disease extent is established before starting the treatment. A CT scan of the chest & abdomen is performed to know the tumour size & extent. PET-CT Scan is not always required. Blood level of CEA – Carcino Embryonic Antigen helps surgeon to prognosticate the disease. Colon cancer is divided in 4 stages. Higher the stage, higher the extent of the disease. Final staging is usually evident only after the surgical removal of the tumour.
How is the colon cancer treated?
Colon cancer is treated with operation, which removes the affected part of the large intestine. Patients will be offered chemotherapy depending upon the stage of the disease.
